Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was among the first wave of German federal states featured in the Bundesländer commemorative series, which launched in 2006 and committed the Bundesbank to issuing one state-themed two-euro piece per year through 2021. The 2007 release was struck across all five German mints — Berlin (A), Munich (D), Stuttgart (F), Karlsruhe (G), and Hamburg (J) — making mint-mark collecting a minor industry unto itself for this series. Relative mintage distribution across facilities was uneven, with the Hamburg J consistently among the lower-mintage options.
