| 背面描述 | The inner disc features a cartographic representation of the European continent rendered without national borders, emphasising the unity of the eurozone, with the face value '2 EURO' inscribed to the left of the map in bold raised numerals. The designer's initials 'LL' for Luc Luycx appear in the lower right portion of the inner disc. The outer ring displays the twelve stars of the European Union in relief, uniformly spaced around the circumference, consistent with the standard common reverse design introduced for euro coinage. |

Issued to mark the tenth anniversary of the eurozone's launch on January 1, 1999, this coin was produced across all participating member states simultaneously — each with its own national obverse. The Netherlands struck the piece under a coordinated ECB authorization, one of the few mechanisms that permits member states to release commemorative two-euro coins outside the annual single-issue ceiling.
The 1999 launch itself had been politically contentious in the Netherlands, where public skepticism toward abandoning the guilder ran higher than in several other founding members.
