Obverse description The inner disc depicts a stylized archipelago seascape evoking the Åland Islands, featuring the bow of a vessel in the lower left, a hand holding a compass in the foreground, and nautical channel markers in the middle ground, with clouds rendered above the horizon. The composition conveys maritime navigation amid island terrain. A circular legend inscribed in Swedish appears in the upper arc and in Finnish in the lower arc, the two texts separated by a pair of diamond-shaped sea buoy symbols. The mint mark 'FI' and the date '2021' are incorporated within the legend. The design commemorates the centenary of Åland's autonomous status.

Reverse description The standard European Union reverse design, as adopted for the €2 denomination, features a geographical relief map of Western Europe extending across both the inner disc and the outer ring on the right side of the coin. The bold numeral '2' is situated in the open field representing the eastern Atlantic Ocean to the left, with the inscription 'EURO' to its right superimposed over the continental landmass. Twelve five-pointed stars, symbolizing the member states of the European Union, are arranged in two groups of six along the upper and lower portions of the outer ring, flanking the map. Six vertical lines crossing the inner disc visually connect the two star groupings. The reverse was designed by Luc Luycx, whose initials 'LL' appear in the lower right of the inner disc.
