| 正面描述 | The bimetallic centre features a carved relief of two Roman deities depicted above the entrance portal of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank's main building in Vienna: Mercury, god of commerce, to the left, and Fortuna, goddess of fate and prosperity bearing a cornucopia, to the right. The background of the coin field extends across the full width of the centre to show the OeNB's neoclassical main premises. An ornamental band along the lower portion of the centre evokes the red-white-red tricolour of the Austrian national flag, rendered in heraldic convention with hatched vertical lines denoting red. The founding year '1816' and bicentennial year '2016' appear to the left of Mercury, while the legends REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH and 200 JAHRE OESTERREICHISCHE NATIONALBANK run along the upper and lower edges of the gold-coloured centre. |

Austria issued this coin to mark the 200th anniversary of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank, founded by imperial decree of Franz I in 1816 — making it one of the oldest central banks in the world still operating under a direct institutional lineage from its founding charter. The OeNB was established partly in response to the catastrophic state finances left by the Napoleonic Wars, during which Austria had suspended convertibility and flooded the economy with unredeemable paper currency known as Bancozettel.
Commemorative €2 coins of this type are legal tender across the entire eurozone despite being issued by a single member state — a quirk of the monetary union that occasionally surprises recipients in other countries.
