Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse features a representation of the Treaty of Rome document set against a background evoking the geometric paving of the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome, designed by Michelangelo, where the treaty was signed on 25 March 1957 by the six founding nations of the European Economic Community. The year 2007 and the inscription 'PACTVM ROMANVM QVINQVAGENARIVM' appear in the field, commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the signing, alongside the word 'EUROPAE' and the trilingual country name 'BELGIQUE-BELGIE-BELGIEN' identifying the issuing state. This common commemorative design was jointly issued by all euro area member states following a competition organized by the European mints, with the specific national legends varying by country while the central motif remains identical. The coin's outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union.

Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse, engraved by Luc Luycx, displays the large numeral '2' in the left portion of the nickel-brass centre, accompanied by a relief map of the European Union depicting the fifteen member states as of the coin's design period, positioned to the right of the denomination. The inscription 'EURO' is integrated across the map, with the engraver's initials 'LL' discreetly placed in the field. The copper-nickel outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union evenly spaced around the circumference.
