Issued to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the 1958 Brussels World's Fair, this coin commemorates the Atomium — a structure that was never intended to be permanent. Built as the centerpiece of Expo 58, the iron crystal model was supposed to be demolished after the exhibition closed, a fate that Belgian public affection ultimately prevented.
