| Beschrijving voorzijde | The bimetallic inner disc bears conjoined portrait effigies of Isala Van Diest, the first female Belgian physician, and Marie Popelin, the first female Belgian lawyer, rendered in right-facing profile relief. The legend arching below the effigies in a semicircle incorporates both names alongside symbols of their respective professions, with the date 2011 positioned centrally between them. The country designation 'BE' appears above the effigies, flanked to the left by the mint master's mark and to the right by the Brussels mintmark. The design commemorates the centenary of International Women's Day, observed on 8 March. The copper-nickel outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union arranged in a continuous circle. |
