Issued to mark the 500th anniversary of Bohorič's birth, this coin honors the Protestant reformer who codified the first standardized orthography for the Slovenian language. His 1584 grammar, Arcticae horulae, established Latin-script writing conventions for Slovenian that persisted for nearly three centuries — until Franc Serafin Metelko and later Ljudevit Gaj's reforms displaced them in the nineteenth century.
The 2020 Slovenian commemorative program also included an issue for the cartographer Valvasor, making Bohorič one of two cultural-historical figures honored that year by Ljubljana's mint.
