| Obverse description | The obverse central field depicts twelve stars that gradually morph into stylised human figures shown embracing one another, symbolising the unity of peoples and cultures under the European Union banner on the occasion of the flag's 30th anniversary. In the upper right quadrant, a semicircular legend reads the bilingual country name and the commemorative date span '1985-2015', while the artist's initials 'ΓΣ' appear at the lower right of the inner disc. The design is the work of Geórgios Stamatópoulos and was selected through a pan-European competition. The coin's outer ring carries the standard twelve stars of the European Union in relief. |
