The design, engraved by Geórgios Stamatópoulos, conveys the flag unfurling in wind with bold, sculptural strokes. The legend RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE arcs along the upper rim of the inner disc, with the commemorative dates 1985-2015 inscribed to the right, marking the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the European flag.
