Issued in 2015 to mark the 25th anniversary of reunification, this coin commemorates an event that moved faster than almost anyone predicted — the formal unification of East and West Germany on October 3, 1990, coming less than a year after the Wall fell. The Treuhandanstalt, the agency tasked with privatizing some 8,500 East German state enterprises, was still winding down its contested work when this coin was struck. Five German mints struck it simultaneously — Berlin, Hamburg, Karlsruhe, Munich, and Stuttgart — each carrying their respective mint marks A, J, G, D, and F.
