Luxembourg's 1999 2 Euro was struck for the eurozone's inaugural year but not released into general circulation — like all twelve founding member states, Luxembourg produced coins dated 1999 that were held in reserve, with actual public circulation beginning only in January 2002. Surviving 1999-dated examples reached collectors primarily through official mint sets.
