| 裏面の説明 | The common reverse of the first series euro coinage features a geographic representation of the fifteen member states of the European Union rendered in relief against a cross-hatched background, occupying the left portion of the inner disc. The face value '2 EURO' is inscribed to the right of the map in two lines, with the engraver's initials 'LL' (Luc Luycx) positioned beneath. The outer ring is adorned with the twelve stars of the European Union evenly spaced around the circumference. |

Finland joined the eurozone at its inception in 1999 but did not put euro coins into general circulation until January 2002, meaning this issue carries dates ranging back three years before a single piece legally changed hands in a shop. The 1999–2001 dated coins were struck in advance and held in reserve, making early-dated examples from those years no rarer in practice than the 2002 issues despite their apparent head start.
The first-map reverse — depicting a pre-2004 European Union geography that excludes the ten countries admitted that May — was replaced across all eurozone members from 2007 onward, giving this type a clean cutoff that collectors can date precisely to the enlargement decision.
