| Obverse description | The obverse features the Brian Boru harp, the national symbol of Ireland, rendered in fine detail with decorative interlace ornamentation on the column and soundboard, centrally positioned within the nickel-brass inner disc. The Irish-language country name 'éIRe' (Ireland) appears to the left of the harp in lowercase lettering, while the year of issue is inscribed vertically to the right. Twelve five-pointed stars, symbolising the European Union, are arranged in a ring around the outer copper-nickel border. The design was engraved by Jarlath Hayes and reflects the medieval manuscript tradition of Irish decorative art. |
