Obverse description The obverse features the Brian Boru harp, the national symbol of Ireland, rendered in fine detail with decorative interlace ornamentation on the column and soundboard, centrally positioned within the nickel-brass inner disc. The Irish-language country name 'éIRe' (Ireland) appears to the left of the harp in lowercase lettering, while the year of issue is inscribed vertically to the right. Twelve five-pointed stars, symbolising the European Union, are arranged in a ring around the outer copper-nickel border. The design was engraved by Jarlath Hayes and reflects the medieval manuscript tradition of Irish decorative art.
