Reverse description The reverse displays the common European Union design for the 2-euro denomination, featuring a relief map of Europe extending beyond the coin's boundaries, rendered without internal national borders. The face value 2 EURO is inscribed to the left of the map, with the mint master's initials LL — those of designer Luc Luycx — visible in the field. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union.

Additional information

Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia all declared independence in 1918, though under drastically different circumstances — Latvia's declaration came in November, after the armistice, with German troops still on Latvian soil and a Soviet-backed government simultaneously claiming Riga. Full consolidation of Latvian statehood required a war of independence that lasted until 1920. This coin marks the centenary of that declaration, issued jointly with the other two Baltic states as coordinated commemoratives rather than a shared design.
