| Descrizione del dritto | The inner disc features a stylised globe rendered in the form of a euro symbol, commemorating the tenth anniversary of euro banknotes and coins in circulation. Surrounding the central motif are symbolic vignettes representing key pillars of the eurozone economy: a family group symbolising ordinary citizens, the Eurotower representing the financial sector, a merchant vessel for trade, a factory denoting industry, and two wind turbines evoking energy and research. The designer's initials 'A.H.' appear discreetly between the ship and the Eurotower. The legend 'MALTA' appears along the upper edge of the inner disc, with the anniversary dates '2002–2012' along the lower edge. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union. |

The euro's physical cash — notes and coins — entered circulation on 1 January 2002, replacing the national currencies of twelve member states simultaneously. Malta, however, was not among them; it adopted the euro only in 2008, meaning this commemorative marks an anniversary Malta itself did not fully share. The coin is legally valid across the eurozone regardless of its Maltese origin, a function of the currency union's standardized framework.
