| Beschrijving voorzijde | The inner disc features a stylised cancer awareness ribbon prominently centred in the field, superimposed over a continuous electrocardiogram (ECG) heartbeat line that traverses the width of the design, symbolising the fight for life. Three concentric arc lines frame the upper portion of the composition, lending depth and dynamism to the motif. The country designation 'BE' and the date '2024' appear to the upper right, accompanied by the engraver's initials 'IB' at lower left. Below the central design, a two-line bilingual legend reads 'Lutte contre le cancer' in French and 'Strijd tegen kanker' in Dutch, with the mint mark of the Royal Dutch Mint appearing beneath. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union. |

Issued to mark the centenary of the Institut Jules Bordet, Belgium's dedicated oncology hospital founded in 1925, this coin honors the broader national campaign against cancer rather than commemorating Philippe himself as an individual — Philippe being a reference to the reigning king whose effigy authorizes the issue. The Bordet Institute was built largely through public fundraising drives in the years following World War I, when cancer mortality in Belgium was climbing sharply and no specialized treatment center existed in the country.
