| 正面描述 | The inner core features a stylized depiction of an open book in the lower field, its pages spread wide, with a large semicircular arch rising behind it to evoke the facade or reading room of the National and University Library of Ljubljana, founded in 1774. A figure is rendered in low relief within the arch, referencing the library's architectural heritage. The curved legend NARODNA IN UNIVERZITETNA KNJIŽNICA arcs across the upper portion of the inner core, with the founding date 1774 inscribed vertically at the right. The country name SLOVENIJA and the issue year 2024 appear in the lower field of the inner core, flanked by twelve five-pointed stars arranged around the outer ring in the standard European Union format. |

The National and University Library in Ljubljana — completed in 1941 to a design by Jože Plečnik — was built on the site of a former palace destroyed in the 1895 earthquake that reshaped much of the city's architecture. Plečnik's insistence on rough-faced stone for the façade was considered deeply unconventional at the time, and the building remains one of the most discussed works of interwar European architecture outside the mainstream modernist canon.
Slovenia has used its 2 euro commemorative program with notable restraint, issuing selectively rather than annually flooding the market.
