Issued in 2007 as part of Germany's Bundesländer series, this coin commemorates Mecklenburg-Vorpommern through its most recognizable architectural monument. Each of the sixteen German states received its own coin under this program, with federal and state authorities negotiating design selection — a process that occasionally generated friction when proposed imagery was deemed too regional or politically sensitive. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's entry was struck across all five German mints, giving it five distinct mint marks: A, D, F, G, and J.
