Obverse description A detailed architectural depiction of the Lutherkirche (Luther Church) in Wiesbaden, Hesse, rendered in high relief at the center of the coin. The multi-tiered tower with its ornate dome rises prominently above the main body of the church, with fine architectural detailing throughout. Twelve five-pointed stars encircle the design near the rim, echoing the standard European coinage motif. The legend 'HESSEN' appears to the right of the tower within the inner circle.
