Obverse description Central depiction of the Paulskirche (St. Paul's Church) in Frankfurt am Main, Hesse, rendered in high relief against a polished field. The neoclassical rotunda is shown in full elevation with its characteristic tower and colonnaded facade. Twelve five-pointed stars encircle the design near the rim, referencing the standard European Union motif. The inscription 'HESSEN' appears to the right of the building within the inner circle.
