| Obverse description | The obverse depicts a view of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, a masterpiece of Spanish Romanesque architecture and one of Christendom's foremost pilgrimage sites. The cathedral's ornate façade is rendered in the field at center. The country name ESPAÑA and the date appear as a legend along the upper rim, flanking the design. The twelve stars of the European Union are arranged around the periphery of the coin, and the royal monogram is incorporated into the composition. |
