Slovenia's euro coins entered circulation on January 1, 2007, the same day the country adopted the euro — making 2007-dated pieces first-year issues from a eurozone member that had been independent for less than two decades. The transition was managed with unusual precision; Slovenia was the first of the post-communist EU accession states to meet all Maastricht convergence criteria and join the eurozone.
