Obverse description The obverse features the Brian Boru harp, the traditional national symbol of Ireland, rendered in fine relief at center. The Irish-language inscription ÉIRE, denoting Ireland, appears in the field, accompanied by the date of issue. Twelve five-pointed stars, symbolizing the member states of the European Union, are arranged in an arc around the periphery of the design. The overall composition was designed by engraver Jarlath Hayes and reflects a refined heraldic style consistent with the Irish Euro coinage series.
