| Obverse description | Rear-facing bust of an Arlésienne — a woman in traditional Arles costume — occupying the central field, depicted wearing an elaborate lace headdress and a richly layered, ruffled bodice characteristic of Provençal festive dress. A ring of twelve five-pointed European stars frames the central design along the inner border. The engraver's signature C.CARDOT appears to the lower left, the issuing organisation N.A.F.S.E.P. is inscribed at the base of the inner circle, and the event dates 20-11 AU 20-12 1997 flank the central device. The legend L'ARLESIENNE runs along the lower exergue. |
