| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the quartered royal arms of Spain within a plain shield, displaying the castles of Castile and the lions of León in the first and fourth quarters, and the pale of Aragon in the second and third quarters, with Granada at the base. The mint mark 'B' (Barcelona) appears to the left of the shield and the assayer's initial 'A' to the right. The denomination numeral 'II' is struck above the shield. A partial Latin legend surrounds the design along the irregular coin edge, reading PHILIPPVS IIII D G. |

| Reverse description | A bold cross pattée at centre, set within a quadrilobe formed by four interlocking arches, creating the characteristic heraldic tressure design typical of Spanish Habsburg gold coinage. The four quadrants formed by the cross each contain a small circular pellet or ornament. The surrounding Latin legend along the irregular flan periphery reads HISPANIARVM REX followed by the date 1655, introduced by a cross pommée. The design is characteristic of the cob-style hammered coinage produced at the Barcelona mint in the mid-seventeenth century. |
