Fernando VI's reign saw Lima operating as one of the most productive mints in the Spanish colonial system, yet the 1751–1753 window for this type was brief. These are cob-style ("macuquina") gold pieces — hand-struck on irregular planchets cut from cast bars — and the Lima mint was under direct pressure during this period to transition toward milled coinage. The assayer marks on surviving examples from these years are critical to attribution, with "J" (José Antonio de Mendoza) being the relevant Lima assayer for much of this run.
