Obverse description Armored and draped bust of King Charles IV facing right, with powdered wig tied at the nape with a ribbon, occupying the majority of the coin's field. The portrait is rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style typical of late-eighteenth-century Spanish colonial coinage. The date appears in the exergue below the bust. The circular legend surrounding the effigy reads CAROLUS IIII D G HISP ET IND R, separated by ornamental stops, with a fine toothed border encircling the entire design.
