Obverse description Armored bust of Carlos III facing right, rendered in the colonial portrait style characteristic of the Mexico City Mint during the early milled coinage series. The king is depicted with a draped and cuirassed shoulder, without a laureate or diadem. The circular legend surrounding the effigy reads CAROLVS III D G HISPAN ET IND REX, with the date 1761 positioned in the lower field beneath the bust. The portrait displays the somewhat stylized, high-relief engraving typical of Mexican gold coinage of this transitional period.
