| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the crowned quartered shield of Spain, displaying the castles of Castile and lions of León in alternate quarters, with Granada in the base point, surmounted by a royal crown in high relief. The mint mark B (Barcelona) appears to the left of the shield and the assayer's initial A to the right. A beaded inner circle frames the shield, with the partial Latin legend disposed around the periphery of the irregularly shaped flan, characteristic of hammered cob coinage. |
