| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse of this cob-style (macuquina) gold doubloon displays the quartered royal arms of Castile and León within a shield, showing the characteristic hastily-struck, irregular design typical of New World hammered coinage. The upper-left and lower-right quarters bear the castles of Castile, while the upper-right and lower-left quarters display the lions of León; the central escutcheon carries the arms of Granada at the base. The mint mark 'SF' (Santa Fe de Bogotá) and the assayer's initial appear in the field, along with the denomination mark 'II'. Due to the cob nature of the flan, the surrounding Latin legend CAROLVS II D G HISPANIARVM REX is only partially visible around the periphery. |
