| Reverse description | The reverse features a bold, plain cross of Jerusalem style with flared terminals, dividing the field into four quadrants, each containing a crowned lion or castle passant depending on the strike's registration. The cross is flanked by the pomegranate symbols in the angles, characteristic of the Santa Fe de Bogotá mint's hammered gold coinage of the late 17th century. The surrounding Latin legend ET YNDIARVM REX is partially visible along the irregular clipped periphery, accompanied by the regnal date when legible. The entire design reflects the crude but authoritative character of macuquina coinage produced for transatlantic commerce during the reign of Carlos II. |
