| Additional information |
Sobhuza II holds the record for the longest verified reign of any monarch in recorded history — 82 years and 254 days, having acceded to the Ngwenyama throne in 1899 as an infant before Swaziland was formally a British protectorate. His Diamond Jubilee in 1981 marked 60 years of his personal rule following the end of the regency in 1921. He died the following year, in 1982, making this issue one of the last commemoratives struck in his name during his lifetime.
