The P#13 2 Emalangeni belongs to Swaziland's second substantive note series, introduced after the lilangeni had stabilized sufficiently for the Central Bank to move away from the transitional designs of the late 1970s. Thomas De La Rue had printed Swazi currency since the kingdom's earliest independent issues, and the relationship gave the series a consistency of production quality across denominations.
The B.S. Dlamini signature here is Barnabas Sibusiso Dlamini, who later served two separate terms as Prime Minister of Swaziland — an unusual career arc for a central bank governor.
