| 表面の説明 | The Dutch heraldic lion, depicted rampant and brandishing a sword, occupies the central field within a ring of twelve stars along the lower periphery, evoking the European Community motif. The legend KONINKRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN arcs along the upper rim in Latin script. The date 1995 appears in the left field, while the denomination 2 ECU is inscribed in the lower field. The design is rendered in high relief in proof finish, with a finely detailed, stylized treatment of the lion's mane and body. |

The Sail Amsterdam '95 event drew tall ships from across the world in August 1995, and the Dutch mint issued a series of ECU pieces to mark it — each reverse featuring a participating vessel from a different nation. The Sagres, representing Portugal, is the naval training ship that has sailed under that name since 1961, originally built in Germany in 1937 as the Albert Leo Schlageter.
ECU coinage from the Netherlands occupied a legal grey area: struck to a recognized European unit of account but never legal tender in the conventional sense, they circulated primarily as collector and souvenir pieces ahead of euro conversion.
