Obverse description Central field displays the quartered arms of Solothurn — a shield divided per fess, the upper half bearing vertical stripes and the lower half plain — surmounted by an elaborate mural crown rendered in high relief. The shield is flanked on either side by decorative laurel or olive branches forming a symmetrical garland. The circular Latin legend RESPUBLICA SOLODORENSIS runs around the periphery of the field, reading from lower right to lower left.
