Obverse description A standing armored knight in full plate armor occupies the center of the field, facing slightly to the right. In his raised right hand he holds an unsheathed sword, while his extended left hand grasps a bundle of seven arrows — a traditional symbol of the unity of the seven Dutch provinces. Small mint symbols flank the knight's helmet at the upper left and right. The date is divided across the lower field, with '18' to the left and '54' to the right of the figure. The circular Latin legend CONCORDIA RES PARVAE CRESCUNT ('By concord, small things grow') runs around the periphery.
