Obverse description Central field displays the elaborately ornamented coat of arms of the Barony of Batenburg, surmounted by a crested and plumed helmet with decorative mantling spreading across the field. The shield below bears the heraldic device of the barony in fine hammered detail. The circumferential Latin legend is separated from the central device by a beaded inner border. The overall composition is characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century Germanic heraldic coinage, with bold, deeply struck relief.
