Obverse description The crowned arms of Lucerne are displayed on an elaborately ornamented shield at the center of the design. The crown at the top is supported on either side by two wildmen (woodwoses), each wearing natural wreaths upon their heads and around their waists; the dexter wildman holds an upright sword while the sinister wildman bears a palm leaf. Both figures stand upon a decorative podest flanked by scrollwork. A shell ornament appears above the shield and a grotesque mascaron below, completing the baroque decorative program.
