Obverse description Standing armored knight in three-quarter view facing right, dressed in full Renaissance-era plate armor with articulated tassets and sollerets, holding a bundle of arrows in his right hand and a long lance or spear in his left, symbolizing the unity of the Dutch provinces. The date 17-16 is divided to either side of the figure in the field. The central device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin legend CONCORDIA RES PAR CRES WEST FRI arranged around the periphery, reading partially on left and right of the design.
