| 裏面の説明 | Elaborately quartered coat of arms of the Archbishopric of Mainz, displayed within a large crowned baroque mantle with ornate foliate mantling. A sword and a crozier are placed in saltire behind the shield, symbolising the temporal and spiritual authority of the Archbishop. The date 1738 appears in the exergue below the arms. The circular Latin motto legend surrounds the entire composition along the coin's border. |

Philip Charles of Eltz-Kempenich served as Archbishop-Elector of Mainz from 1732 until his death in 1743, presiding over one of the most politically consequential ecclesiastical seats in the Holy Roman Empire — the Archbishopric held the role of Archchancellor of Germany and cast the first vote in imperial elections. His tenure coincided with the War of Austrian Succession, which began just three years after this coin was struck, drawing the Rhenish electorates into a web of competing dynastic pressures.
The Eltz family's hold on Mainz was notable; Philip Charles was the second of that house to occupy the throne, following his uncle.
