Obverse description Right-facing laureate effigy of Tsar Peter I (the Great), rendered in high relief with considerable sculptural detail. The emperor is depicted wearing elaborately decorated armour with a beaded gorget and a draped mantle fastened at the shoulder, conveying imperial military authority. The hair falls in long curls behind the neck in the Baroque fashion of the period. The Cyrillic peripheral legend, reading from the lower left and continuing around the upper field, identifies the ruler by name and patronymic.
