| Obverse description | A fully armored standing knight occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle, holding an upright sword in the right hand and a bundle of arrows in the left — the traditional emblems of the Dutch Republic. The date is divided by the knight's figure, appearing at either side within the inner circle. The surrounding legend, rendered in Latin capitals, reads CONCORDIA RES PAR CRESCUNT, the motto of the United Provinces. The design follows the long-established ducat type of the Dutch provinces, struck here under the authority of Utrecht during the reign of Louis Napoleon. |
