Reverse description The reverse displays a bold seven-line commemorative inscription filling the entire field, centered and reading: ZUM / 200 JÄHRIG. / JUBILÄUM / DER / K. LEIBGARDE / DER HARTSCHIERE, / 13 APRIL / 1869, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Royal Bodyguard of the Hartschiere. The lettering is deeply struck in capital Roman type. The design is enclosed within a beaded border, with no additional decorative elements, allowing the inscription to serve as the sole focus of the reverse composition.

Additional information

This 1869 pattern was struck in copper as a trial piece for a proposed 2-ducat issue intended to honor the Leibgarde der Hartschiere — Louis II's ceremonial royal bodyguard corps, one of the oldest household guard formations in Bavaria, tracing its origins to the 15th century. Patterns of this type rarely progressed to gold production, and most were retained by the Munich mint or distributed to court officials rather than entering any commercial channel.
