| Beschrijving keerzijde | Elaborately quartered and subdivided coat of arms of the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg, surmounted by a princely crown and supported on either side by ornate mantling in the Baroque style. The multi-quartered shield incorporates the heraldic devices of the various territories and dignities held by John Philip Francis of Schönborn. A scrolled ribbon cartouche at the base bears the dates of his birth and election. The surrounding Latin legend reads QVIA TV ES DEVS FORTITVDO MEA (For Thou art God my strength), with the inscriptions NAT 15 FEBR 1673 and ELECT 18 SEPT 1719 positioned in the lower field, commemorating his birth on 15 February 1673 and his election as Prince-Bishop on 18 September 1719. |

John Philip Francis of Schönborn became Prince-Bishop of Würzburg in 1719, the same year this piece was struck — his elevation to the see coinciding with the final phases of construction on the Würzburg Residenz, the enormous baroque palace he commissioned from Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt and later Balthasar Neumann. Ducats issued in accession or early reign years for prince-bishops of this period were frequently presentation pieces rather than circulation currency, produced in limited numbers for diplomatic gift-giving.
The Schönborn family dominated ecclesiastical politics in the Holy Roman Empire throughout the early eighteenth century, simultaneously holding multiple prince-bishoprics across the Reich.
