Additional information

The Sofiendukat series was struck specifically as a presentation piece tied to the Saxon court, not for general commerce. John George I, who would go on to become one of the more consequential — and controversial — Protestant princes of the Thirty Years' War, was still consolidating dynastic authority in 1616, three years before the conflict erupted. These ducats circulated within a gift economy of the Electoral court rather than any marketplace.

KM#127 is documented with meaningful die variation across the run.
