| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the elaborately mantled achievement of arms of the Teutonic Order Grand Master Johann Caspar von Ampringen, comprising a quartered shield incorporating the distinctive black cross of the Order and the dynastic arms of Ampringen, surmounted by a crowned helm with elaborate crest featuring crossed swords and flanking supporters. The shield is adorned with baroque cartouche and foliate mantling. The surrounding circular legend in Latin reads IOAN. CASP. D. G. MAG. HOS. ORD. TEUT. S. EL. PR., identifying the Grand Master by title, and is contained within a beaded border. |
