| Obverse description | Left-facing bust of Guglielmo IX Paleologo, Marquess of Montferrat, depicted in Renaissance style wearing a richly detailed cap and a draped mantle with finely engraved horizontal ribbing on the hair. The portrait is rendered with strong individualistic character typical of late 15th-century Italian coinage. The circular Latin legend reads GVLIELMVS MAR MONT FER ZC, identifying the ruler and his marquisate, running along the inner beaded border. |
