Obverse description Bare-headed, draped bust of Federico II Gonzaga, Marquis of Mantua, facing left, rendered in the Renaissance portrait style with naturalistic curling hair. The effigy is truncated at the shoulder and occupies the central field. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, reading FEDERICVS II MAR MANTVAE V, identifying the ruler by name and title. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and slightly uneven strike typical of Italian Renaissance hammered gold coinage.
